Sect. 3. PYRRUOSA.  Calyje 2-4-lobus, glaber. Colnmna sta-
minea depressa, subglobosa, apice concava, tota antherifera.

Blame appears to have brought together under the name of Pyrrhosa all the pani-
culate Nutmegs ; but the aperies included by him in the group by no means agree in
floral characters. As deliued above, however, it constitutes a very natural group.
M, (P.) Javauica, Blume, belongs to onr last section, and Jf. (P.) ttorsjieldii,
Bluuie, though anomalous as to iullorcsceuce, seems rather referable to

Arbor, corlicc fuseo rugoso glabro. Folia crnsac curiacca, nervis obliquis rectis
apice tantum curvulis, Subdistautibus, 5-9 poll, longa, 3-4J- lata, pctiolo f-pull. Pa-
nitwits asillares, ramosissiriise, pubescentes, 4-6 poll, longjn, braeteis ad ranioa pri-
mordiales subpcrsistentibus ovalibus. IHores rnmuti, ad apices rainuloruni i'asciculati ;
calyx plerumque bivalvis.

foliis oblongo-kuceolatis. vel ctmeato-oblongis utrinque acutis, paniculis

Arbor procera. Bamuli teretes, glabri, cortice rugoso cinereo. Folia 5-8 poll.

nitudiue, hinc sulco profundo exsculpti ; valvai crassaj. Arilhts aurautiacus, tenuis,

The flowers of this species are as sjjiall as those of AT. Lya, aud very numerous,
and the panicles are elongated, with long, much-spreading branches.
13.  M. globtdaria (BL Rumph. i. 191. t. 64. f. 2, noa Lam.);
foliis ellipticis vel lanceolatis utrinque glabris, paniculis ferrugmeo-
tomentosis, floribus minutis globosis ad apices ramulorum fasciculatis
brevissime pedicellatis, fruptu ovoideo parvo.

Arbor mcdiocris. Ramuli fusco-cinereij glabri ; partes novelise ferrugiueo-pube-
ruliB. Folia utrinque acuta, apice plerumque acuminata, 4-5 poll, longa, li-fere 2
lata, petiolo |-polL, coriacea, supra nitida, subtua ferruginea, nervis subdistantibns
paraUelis ultra medium minus conspicuis curvatis. Panicula ad aiillas. foliorum
delapsorum 2-3-pollicarcs. Calyx 3-4-lobus. Anther* in globum 3-4-lobum coa-
